Michael’s Fund Celebrates Fifteen Years – April, 2011
It is difficult for us at Michael’s Fund to believe that fifteen years have passed since this
charitable organization began. Michael’s Fund continues to finance marrow drives to help
children and adults harbor hope for a second chance at life.
Fifteen years have passed since a courageous, eleven year old boy, Michael David Wrobel,
battled Burkitt’s lymphoma followed by B cell leukemia…always meeting his terrible ordeal
with a quiet patience and a positive hope.
Fifteen years have passed since a determined, young boy, leaving Hasbro Children’s Hospital
with a brief two week period of remission, made this promise: “ I’m coming back to help all
these children”.
Fifteen years have passed since a noble, brave boy, surrounded by family and friends, doctors
and nurses, faced his death believing he would meet his loving God..
Michael’s true legacy in the charity which bears his name can be witnessed in the following
statistics. Through February, 2011, Michael’s Fund has financed over
1,100 marrow drives at the cost of over
$450,000 dollars, and has entered over
38,000 individuals into the national “Be the Match” registry.
Yes, fifteen years have passed since this precious boy Michael inspired his family and friends
to be committed to the fulfillment of his promise: to offer hope to those with cancer and other
serious diseases requiring marrow transplants. Michael handed us the torch. But thanks to your
generous involvement, you have lit that torch with a flame which hopefully will burn eternal.
